ROUND UP
1.AMD Radeon RED DRAGON RX 580
We’ll talk a little more on all differences later on in the article, but the primary focus will be Radeon RX 570 and 580. Both the The Radeon RX 570 and 580 graphics card will be made available in 4 and 8GB versions, you will also see both reference and tweaked SKUs from the board partners. The GPU used in the 580 is based on Polaris 20 (XTX), an Ellismere (codename) GPU based on 4th generation GCN architecture.
For the RX 570 that would be a Polaris 21, which is based on the same GPU and is similar to the Polaris 10 based products last year. The GPUS are fabbed based on a 3rd generation 14nm FinFET+ process based. The Radeon RX 580 will push the product to just over 6 TFLOPS of peak performance, 5 TFLOPS for the Radeon RX 570. The fabrication process is more refined and this allows AMD to create better silicon with less leakage. As a result, the clock frequencies can go up.
2.ZOTAC Gaming GeForce GTX 1660
The GeForce GTX 1660 graphics card family hasn’t been out for even a year, but it looks like Nvidia’s penchant to “Super”-size all its cards has given it its turn in the Super barrel.
As a budget-focused graphics card built for 1080p gameplay, the new GeForce GTX 1660 Super is a tactically priced addition to Nvidia’s swelling lineup of mainstream graphics options. We looked at it in Zotac’s \ GeForce GTX 1660 Super Twin Fan guise, and while it presents just a modest step up over the non-Super GTX 1660, it still packs enough punch to keep esports hounds and 1080p-bound AAA gamers playing long into the night. It comes in close enough to the next-step-up GeForce GTX 1660 Ti for the price to eke out our Editors’ Choice award for 1080p-gaming cards—for now.
3.Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1050 Ti
This Gigabyte card is launching at a , which is more than Nvidia’s MSRP for “stock” or basic versions of the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti. That puts this specific Gigabyte card into the same rough pricing tier as AMD’s Radeon RX 470 cards, of which we’ve tested one (the PowerColor Red Devil Radeon RX 470) and have more in the hopper. Nvidia was generally pushing the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti in its launch announcement, since it’s the slightly higher-spec of the new GTX 1050-series cards, versus the vanilla GeForce GTX 1050. ]
So it’s not a surprise that the first card we’re getting our grubby mitts on is one of the higher-end GTX 1050 Ti models, since card makers tend to want to put their best silicon foot forward. (That said, we have a couple of GeForce GTX 1050 non-Ti cards on the bench right behind it, and we’ll include one of those in the discussion here, as well.)
4.MSI Gaming Radeon RX 5500 XT
MSI has sent over their Radeon RX 5500 XT GAMING X 8GB for review, beefing up the VRAM amount from 4GB (where most Radeon RX 5500 XT cards will fall) to 8GB. It’s a bit overkill considering how much faster the Radeon RX 5600 XT is, and that has 6GB of VRAM — but here we go.
The Navi GPU on the new Radeon RX 5500 XT comes in at 158mm2 compared to the larger 221mm2 on the Polaris GPU inside of the Radeon RX 480. This means AMD has crammed in 1.7x performance per area with its new Radeon RX 5500 XT over the previous-gen Polaris-based Radeon RX 480
