Ask any hardcore gamer what matters most and nine out of 10 times you’ll get a one-word answer—speed. It’s no secret that fast frame rates not only give you smoother game play but they can also give you an edge over those unfortunate souls who have to deal with lag and choppy motion. You can spend thousands on a tricked out gaming rig but if your monitor can’t display the action smoothly you’re not getting the most out of your hardware investment.
With the Asus VG248QE , you don’t have to worry about ghosting, lag, or choppy action. This 24-inch gaming monitor offers a 1-millisecond (gray-to-gray) pixel response and a 144Hz refresh rate, and it is 3D capable. Its color accuracy is good (not great) and its stand lets you position the panel in any direction for optimal (and comfortable) viewing. Off angle viewing is less than stellar though, and a few more I/O ports would be nice.

It isn’t billed as a gaming monitor like the Alienware AW3420DW, but the inclusion of AMD FreeSync and 60Hz refresh rate should be appealing to enthusiast game developers (as well as players).
The 34WN80C-B sports a simple, straightforward design. The base is a large, curved footprint from it emerges a telescopic arm that offers ergonomic adjustments (-5°/20° tilt, a max of 120mm height), and VESA mount support. The CF791 is based on a 34-inch Vertical Alignment (VA) panel and employs Quantum Dot technology, which uses nano-size light-emitting crystals to deliver vivid colors without consuming a lot of power. Not only is this the first Quantum Dot monitor we’ve tested, the CF791’s 1,500R curvature (which means that if you put several of these monitors edge to edge to create a complete circle, the circle’s radius would be 1,500mm) gives it the most pronounced curve we’ve seen.
By way of comparison, the LG 34UC79G-B has a 3,800R curvature, and the AOC C3583FQ’s curvature is 2,000R. The panel has a 3,440-by-1,440 resolution and a 100Hz refresh rate, a 21:9 aspect ratio, a 3,000:1 contrast ratio, a 300 cd/m2 peak brightness, and a 4-millisecond (gray-to-gray) pixel response. It’s a wide-gamut panel that covers 125 percent of the sRGB color spectrum, and it supports AMD’s FreeSync anti-tearing technology.

I’ll come right out and say it – it looks like Apple designed this HP monitor. HP very clearly wanted to mimic the clean, bright, minimalist look of most Apple displays, and I have to admit that they did a great job with it. I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been so taken by the mere physical appearance of a monitor before.
The 27xw is advertised as “bezel-less,” and does come very close to the mark – the top and side bezels are razor thin and glossy black, fitting right in with the rest of the display. The bottom bezel is a tad thicker and is a pleasing silver color. The stand is likewise silver and makes use of an open air wedge design – two elegant legs extend down from the display, connect with an oblong base at the bottom. As is often the case with designs like this, the monitor is rather limited in its adjustability – you can only tilt it slightly forwards and back, and it does not swivel, rotate, or adjust vertically.
