1.Motorola Video Baby Monitor

Features

OUR TAKE

Parents will probably like this Motorola monitor. The Motorola MBP36 offers better than average video quality, tested relatively well for range distance, and is easy to use. With a brand name most people trust and history of making quality products, it might feel like a natural choice for some parents to make. However, 6 other products scored higher in our review, and 1 tied.

All of the close competition had better or comparable scores for video (a metric we feel is very important to this category), offered better sound quality, and longer battery life. Given these elements it makes it hard to put this monitor on a pedestal.

Which monitor parents choose will likely depend on what features or metrics are most important to them, but we feel pretty confident that the other options have more to offer, and some even sport a lower list price. All of this makes the Motorola a hard monitor to recommend.

2.Summer Baby Pixel Zoom

Features

OUR TAKE

Since having the girls, we’ve been long term fans of the Summer range, using all different products from swaddles and baby baths, to playpens, booster seats and baby monitors, they have such handy innovative products they are often my go-to brand when we are looking for our next baby purchase.

When Violet was little, we used the Summer Panorama Video monitor, which I absolutely loved and it served us well but when we moved into our new house and Pearl was born, the distance between her room and ours was just a bit far for it to stretch and we kept losing signal.

It had a really good range in our old house (Violet’s room was on another floor!) but this house seems to have ridiculously thick walls as although it’s not massive, our WiFi doesn’t travel far either!

3.Babysense 4.3″

Features

OUR TAKE

Baby monitors can range from the truly simplistic to the gadget-friendly unit that is nearly as insightful as a babysitter. You can get a monitor with built-in lullabies that help soothe with just the hit of a button, and nearly every model now offers temperature monitoring.

Be prepared to dish out a few more bucks if you want to see your baby’s sleeping habits and patterns over time. You’ll see the addition of these features reflected in the price of each monitor. The difficulty of setup is also usually correlated with how many features a unit has.

4.Video Baby Monitor

Features

OUR TAKE

This product includes temperature and humidity sensors, motion detection, 2-way communication, a nightlight, lullabies and nature sounds, sound activation, and more. We think parents will like the intuitive user interface and the full-crib downward viewing vantage point. It even includes a breathing band for a complete “picture” of the baby.

This monitor is one of the most expensive contenders in the group, making it a potential no-go for tighter budgets. You also need adequate Internet for consistent monitoring, so it may not work for you if you have slow or sub-par service. However, if your budget allows and you’re looking for a variety of baby-centric features, then the Nanit could be the monitor of your dreams.

5.VTech DM221-2

Features

OUR TAKE

The Vtech DM221 is a budget-friendly sound monitor with more features than the average product in this price range. The DM221 has excellent sound clarity with some of the best and loudest sounds in the group. This monitor has sound activation and two-way talk to baby, the two most sought after features in monitors.

If that isn’t enough to sway you it has a remotely controlled nightlight, belt clip, and mute features. This monitor might be a little more complicated to use thanks to the menu options and programming, but it is a good option for most families looking for good sound clarity and lower price.
