We would not recommend building a brand new machine using this motherboard and the AM3+ socket simply because of the brand new Ryzen processors.
However, if you find a good cheap and used FX-8350 or 8320 chip and want to pair it with a decent motherboard, go with this one. It is currently the best rated AM3+ motherboard and has already proven its worth.

Prior to the launch of the new Sandy Bridge-E platform, we have to work our way through the AMD based boards we received. Today we’re looking at the ASUS M5A97 Evo and this is one of the more interesting boards we’ve looked at due to the fact it carries with it a price tag of only $119 US.
