1.ASUS M5A78L-M

Features

OUR TAKE

The Micro-ATX Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 should fit into all ATX cases, but its smaller size allows you to downsize your system build as a whole. Its size comes at the cost of features, so there are likely to be far fewer connections and expansion options available than in a larger motherboard.

The Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 has 6 SATA 2.0 hard drive slots. These allow for data speeds of up to 3GB/s. SATA 2.0 is a very common standard, and despite the emergence of SATA 3.0 – whose potential is difficult to reach currently – SATA 2.0 remains a viable option.

The Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 supports onboard graphics. This allows for integrated graphics when paired with a compatible CPU that supports them. Integrated graphics are a cheap alternative to using a graphics card, but should be avoided when frequently using modern applications or games that require intense graphical processing. There are 1 PCIe x16 slots on this motherboard.

2.Asus Us M5a78l-m

Features

OUR TAKE

This motherboard supports AMD® AM3+ multi-core processors with unique L3 cache and delivers better overclocking capabilities with less power consumption. It features dual-channel DDR3 memory support and accelerates data transfer rate up to 5200MT/s via HyperTransport™ 3.0 based system bus. This motherboard also supports AMD® CPUs in the new 32nm manufacturing process.

I have been running this a while now so can give my thoughts. I wanted to downsize to a smaller system whilst still having plenty of punch. I coupled this with an AMD 3850 piledriver which this handsomely overclocked to 4.5GHz. 4 memory slots is nice also, and it has plenty of USB ports.

3.GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3

Features

OUR TAKE

We would not recommend building a brand new machine using this motherboard and the AM3+ socket simply because of the brand new Ryzen processors. However, if you find a good cheap and used FX-8350 or 8320 chip and want to pair it with a decent motherboard, go with this one. It is currently the best rated AM3+ motherboard and has already proven its worth.

If you stumbled upon this article you may be wondering why a review for a two-year old 990FX motherboard has been published in Q3 2014. There are a couple of reasons for that, part of which involves the fact that AMD has refreshed their AM3+ FX processor offerings a few weeks ago at much more affordable pricing so some AMD-centric builders have more options for building or upgrading

4.Gigabyte AM3+ AMD

Features

OUR TAKE

Using an AMD FX CPU today is like opting to start last at a marathon and intentionally coming last. FX CPUs are now a decade old, and they cannot match the performance of current generation Core i3 processors let alone the latest Ryzen 5 processors.

Nevertheless, if you need a motherboard to go with your AMD FX CPU, then the 990FX chipset is what you should get. This Gigabyte motherboard is designed for serious overclocking, and that is how you should be using your FX CPU today.

GIGABYTE M.2 solution offers considerably faster storage performance and support for both PCIe and SATA interface for M.2 SSD devices.

5.ASUS Prime Z390-A

Features

OUR TAKE

Starting with the premier entry-level Prime range, the ASUS Prime Z390-A is an ATX sized motherboard and features a white, silver and black design throughout. The board has a white rear panel cover and chipset heatsink, with integrated RGB on both with support for ASUS AURA Sync.

The PCB has a white patterning which contrasts quite nicely and represents one of the more subtle looking ASUS Z390 options. The Prime Z390-A has three full-length PCIe 3.0 slots with two getting treated to ASUS Safe slot armor protection and the slots operate at x16, x8 and x4 from top to bottom. This means the Prime Z390-A officially supports two-way SLI and up to three-way CrossFire multi-graphics card configurations.

6.MSI Arsenal

Features

OUR TAKE

The power delivery heatsinks have also been upgraded with the heatsink covering the MOSFETs and extending further over towards the rear IO. The newer heatsinks have a cleaner and futuristic look, but with a lighter grey finish. Other differences include the SATA port implementation.

When looking at the overall performance of the B450 Tomahawk, the most positive points to highlight come in the power consumption testing where the 2W idle power draw of the B450 chipset clearly plays a big part. Even at maximum load the B450 Tomahawk even manages to do well with one of the lowest maximum power draws seen from an AM4 board so far.

The general performance throughout the compute and rest of the system based tests is around average for an entry-level option, which is more than acceptable for most systems. Unfortunately the less that impressive audio is a mark against the board.

7.ASRock Micro ATX DDR3

Features

OUR TAKE

Today’s sample uses the very robust H97 chipset, and was $75 on Newegg when this review was prepared, but is now at low prices. The ASRock H97M Pro4 is a micro-ATX board with 4+1 power phases and the ability to overclock the unlocked Pentium G3258. Let’s take a look at it — but first, a little vindication: I achieved very poor overclocking results in prior testing, so I bought another G3258 to see if the budget boards I’m testing are the issue, or if I had simply lost the silicon lottery, which was my suspicion.

The board about to be exposed could not overclock the original chip over 4.0GHz stable either, but the new chip was fairly happy at 4.2GHz on the board-selected 1.28V, just getting a little warm in some tests. That warmth discouraged me from going for an even higher overclock, but a tweaker, using a better cooler, may zoom right on past my efforts. Worth noting is that I couldn’t find a spot on or near the VRMs registering as high as 37C on my IR thermometer during my tests.

10.GIGABYTE B550I AORUS PRO

Features

OUR TAKE

One of GIGABYTE’s most scalable ranges is its Aorus series, which typically aims its feature set and aesthetics at gamers. Often clad in RGB enabled heatsinks and componentry, the Aorus series is now GIGABYTE’s most widely recognizable range, which stretches from the larger E-ATX to small-sized mini-ITX offerings in motherboards, but also covers graphics cards, laptops, and all manner of other components.

Focusing on the mini-ITX form factor, the range on offer is considerably more competitive than the ATX market for a couple of reasons. The fi

rst is that there are much fewer small form factor models available, meaning manufacturers are limited in what they can do and need to strive to get the right solution, sometimes at the first time of asking. The second is that with less to choose from, it’s key in getting a model that fits the desired feature set and for the rest of the hardware to fit the whole aspect of a system build.

Best Motherboards for Amd fx 8350 – BUYER’S GUIDE

back to menu ↑

Form Factor

This basically means the dimensions of the motherboard. You need to be sure which board will fit your PC Case. ATX motherboards, as well as Micro-ATX, are common. To find the right size, you can measure your old motherboard to get an idea of what you need to look for.

back to menu ↑

Processor Socket

The next thing to look for is a compatible socket for your processor. There are many types of sockets, although only three of them are applicable these days. They are LGA, BGA, and PGA. Intel is compatible with LGA, while AMD uses PGA. BGA isn’t as popular as others, as they are bonded directly to the motherboard. This is why they can’t be upgraded or serviced.

back to menu ↑

RAM

This is a very important part of the motherboard. The recommended RAM should be at least 16 GB. The unit you buy usually determines the RAM you’ll be getting, so be mindful of which one you choose. You should look for a model that has at least four memory slots, so you have plenty of room for more RAM modules.

back to menu ↑

PCI Slots

A PCI slot is a port that allows expansion cards to be connected. The type of PCI slots depends on what you’ll be using your computer for. If you want to use it for gaming, multiple full speed PCI-express x16 slots would be your ideal one.
