Or perhaps six months of higher prices have changed our perspective? We do remember a time when the cheapest boards to use an enthusiast-class chipset were priced around .

Regardless of how we define cheapness, this board still gets you a voltage regulator with eight 46A MOSFETs for the CPU core on a board that undercuts the other “value-priced models” we’ve tested by a wide margin. That voltage regulator should be adequate to run the full range of Ryzen 3000processors at stock settings. Since our test CPU is a middle model, we’ll push it a bit with overclocking.

On the main features, the ASUS Prime X570-P has two full-length PCIe 4.0 slots which operate at x16 and x16/x4. This is because the Ryzen 3000 series processors feed the top slot, while the bottom full-length slot lanes come directly from the X570 chipset.

This means there is support for two-way AMD CrossFire multi-graphics card configurations, but none for NVIDIA SLI. For storage devices, there are two M.2 slots with support for PCIe 4.0 x4 drives, but users looking to run fast and hot running NVMe drives may need to purchase their own heatsinks as the board doesn’t feature them; also included on the Prime X570-P are a total six SATA ports.

Memory support is good with four memory slots with support for up to 128 GB with the 32 GB UDIMMs having been qualified by ASUS across its X570 product stack.

The Prime Z390-A supports keeping all three of its x16-length slots active, even when hosting two M.2 drives, which should be seen as a significant benefit by anyone who might ever consider installing two M.2 drives. Sharing problems are still present but lessened, as the second M.2 slot gets only two PCIe lanes until the user goes into firmware and sets the slot to x4 mode, which disables two of the SATA ports.

That shouldn’t be much of a problem for most buyers at this market level, since four SATA ports are still available when both M.2 cards are configured in PCIe 3.0 x4 mode. If you mean to install more hardware than that, you can probably afford to go even further upmarket on the board, too.
